Children’s Services
The philosophy behind the Children’s Services Program that we believe the first five years of life represent a critical period during which the foundations of a child’s development are constructed and that children must be given the opportunity to develop to their fullest potential starting as early as possible.
We believe that parents and caregivers are the primary teachers for their children and that their love and dedication are two of the most essential factors for the development and growth of their children. We believe that parents of children with developmental delays/disabilities need support as they experience the demands associated with parenting and that if families and therapists work together, each child will be given the opportunity to realize his or her full potential.
The mission of the Children’s Services Program is:
- To provide developmental, physical, occupational, and speech/language therapies to children with an identified developmental delay to prevent, alleviate, or remediate a disabling condition.
- To provide parents with support, encouragement, training, and education specific to their child’s and family’s needs.
- To facilitate development of a healthy family system which meets the needs of all members.
- To facilitate the involvement of the child and family in their community.
Oak-Leyden’s Children’s Services Program is designed to facilitate a regular developmental pattern in children who demonstrate a specific or general developmental delay in one or more areas of development. Services are provided in the child’s natural environments through the use of everyday routines and activities. End results of services vary from age-appropriate skills to the prevention of a more severe delay in skills.
The services offered include:
- Developmental evaluation and direct developmental, occupational, physical, and speech/language therapy for infants and toddlers, age birth-5 years.
- Parent education in strategies and activities designed to meet their individual child’s needs.
- Parent support through parent liaison services, social events, and upon request, parent-to-parent linkages.
